Still Learning

Over the last month I have learnt quite a lot about myself, particularly in the 30 Day Self Portrait Challenge, but sometimes life lessons come in smaller pieces. Mine surprised me in hindsight. I thought I would share them with you as I can imagine both are pretty common.

30 Days: A Self Portrait

This is the final day of my self-targeted 30 Day Self Portrait challenge. Outside of simply gaining some intensive portrait practice I think I have learnt quite a lot. I thought I’d share a few of those lessons as well as a few of my plans for the next few months.

Happy 2015!

 HAPPY NEW YEAR! I haven’t written a post in a really long time, but it’s a new year and so I thought I’d start off with a look at the last year, what I managed, and what I didn’t, and what my plans are this year. My child is asleep next to me and so…

Baptism: Gown Lessons

One of the traditional pieces of a baptism that I really wanted to keep hold of was Cub’s gown. Historically the gown was meant for both adults and children to symbolise the new start: they would be baptised/bathed naked and then be given brand new white robes. It is now pretty common to see babies…

300th Post: What Writing Means To Me

No-one is more surprised than myself that I have written 300 posts (this one included) since the conception just over two years ago. I had tried a tumblr account, pretty sure I have an online journal out there somewhere, and have attempted a dozen diaries over my lifetime and yet, nothing stuck. How is it…

Leadership = Leader Sheep

Over my lifetime and experience of Christian life (in many forms and denominations) I have learnt many things about leadership with some great… and not so great examples of leaders within the Church. They are also often things that members of a congregation, or those outside of the church family, should remember about those standing…

Five Lessons From The Sound of Music

Breaking from my weekly routine is due to a piece of news that I only received at the weekend and I felt needed marking: Maria Von Trapp, the last member of the family singers (before the three later children were born to the Captain and Maria) that inspired The Sound of Music, died at 99 years…

Two Years of Writing

I have been writing on this blog for two years. That is astounding to me because when I signed up I really hesitated in publishing anything publicly just incase it was a waste of time and I dropped it too fast. I can’t say those two years have been easy, or that I have written as…

Academic Kids: Preparing for Parenthood

There are a number of Universities that have taken on the mentoring/networking idea of “family” within their student populations. However, I think it is fair to say that St Andrews does it differently. For those who don’t know there are a number of traditions that keep the fun alive and even for alumni, memories are…

New Year & Resolutions For 2014

This is the time of year that the internet fills with resolutions, challenges, advice, and leftovers from the feasts enjoyed previously. Although I don’t want to bore you all silly I thought I would think over, and write about, the lessons from 2013 and my hopes for 2014.
